When I heard that a friend of mine sponsored a child, I really wanted to support a child too. However, I couldn’t afford at that time since I had lots of expenses to take care of. Therefore, I intended to postpone until I’m ready. But then again, my personal finance was still tough a year later. Nonetheless, I started to think "When will I get to support a child if I keep putting it off?" So I searched on the internet andbrochures about granting educational funds to needy children, then I found Santisuk Foundation’s brochures at a convenient store. After discussion with Santisuk’s staff to make sure that the money really goes to support poor children, I requested to sponsor a child. Even though 500 baht/month is not a lot of money, deep down I wasn’t sure how long I would be able to support the child due to my personal burden. However, I didn’t regret the decision at all.  

It turned out that good things happened to me after the sponsorship was made. I became more organized in spending money than before and I wanted to give more than take. For example, I thought about what presents to buy for the poor children in New Year’s Day or what should be the birthday present for the kid I support. With only a short thank you letter with their pictures of holding the presents happily, I feel overwhelmed. When they described their daily lives, dreams and their concerns in the letter, I really appreciated their determination to study hard for better future.

However, there are still several needy children out there waiting for financial support. They’re still hungry and need to be educated for brighter future. If we let this issue continues, our society will be full of poor people,and therefore, criminals. All of us can help making things better by starting with ourselves. We just think about how to give, not to take, and make it a habit, then convince everyone. Finally, we’ll be able to improve the society we all live in.
